Patricia Bayona has been a member of Science of Spirituality since 1992. She started meditating when living in her native country, Colombia, where she began to participate actively in SOS as part of the young adults group and as a children’s teacher. With her husband, Andrés Jara, they moved to Canada, where they taught meditation to children and teenagers for eleven years. Their two sons are meditators since young age, and volunteer on a regular base in the SOS Naperville Center. They also facilitated the establishment of the Sheffield Meditation Center in Ontario, which offers free meditation and classes on spirituality to the Toronto area. In Naperville, Dr. Bayona volunteers as a teacher’s coordinator, and develops curricula focused on spirituality and ethical values for the yearly Chicago Summer Camp of Science of Spirituality.
Dr. Bayona’s professional expertise in the language field focuses on how foreign languages are acquired. Her Doctoral Dissertation was a pioneer in introducing the theme of third language acquisition to America, and she has been invited to discuss her findings in numerous conference presentations in Canada, the United States, and Europe. Dr. Bayona currently develops research in the acquisition of Spanish as an additional language, and is a Professor in teacher education, linguistics, and the teaching of Spanish in North Central College.
